I have taught a plethora of students of varying ages and abilities. Many went on to win numerous awards, obtain perfect and excellent NYSSMA scores, and perform in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall. I could not be more proud of my students.

Meyer Nam is a wonderful teacher who is patient, kind, and committed to seeing his students succeed. I would recommend him to any student looking to learn!

Zachary S.

Mr. Nam is a former teacher of my 10 year old daughter. We had to move away, but while we had lessons with Mr. Nam, she progressed very quickly. He made sure to explain anything she didn't understand and was very honest in his feedback, allowing her to deepen her understanding of music.

Alex K.

I’ve been working with Meyer for about a month now. He creates a learning atmosphere that suites my personality. I think what has stood out is the pace of learning. He’s critical about me being absolutely knowledgeable of what we learned before we move on. I’m in my late 20’s and learning piano from scratch. Meyers’ personality and communication makes me feel confident as a beginner. He teaches you how to practice correctly, gives light homework (which I really appreciate), and even music to listen to to train the ear.

Calvin L.

Meyer has been teaching my 2 sons for the past 6 months. They had no prior piano experience and are starting to play beautifully. Meyer is very kind and patient with them and giving them a solid musical foundation. I’m very excited to see what they can achieve with Meyer teaching them.

JL.

Meyer is a wonder instructor! Adult learner here and have been taking lessons with him for about seven months. He is super observant and he provides helpful tips for fingering, technique, with supplements of music theory in every lesson. Glad that he takes time to share his knowledge of music theory because it’s amazing how having an understanding in music theory helps with picking up reading and playing the music. He also deepened my knowledge about classical music and composers which allows me to appreciate music even more. As an instructor, Meyer is extremely patient, encouraging, and kind. He also has a grand piano which makes the lessons even more enjoyable. All in all, Meyer is a wonderful person and teaches in a professional manner. Highly recommend!

Ann S.

Meyer is an attentive and motivating teacher. He is an extremely skilled pianist and has a wealth of knowledge in music. I was self-conscious as a beginner but immediately felt comfortable with him from my first lesson. His teachings have deepened my appreciation of music overall, and I feel I improve with each lesson.

Aidan T.

Mr. Nam is such a dedicated teacher who fully prepared each of his classes

AJ W.

Meyer has inspired my children to excel at the piano. He is patient and knows how to inspire and connect with children of all ages. I enthusiastically recommend him!

Mark B.

Meyer is a great piano teacher for my daughter, it’s not easy to teach a 5-yr old but he has done an amazing job teaching my daughter how to play piano and read notes.

Kristine K.

Mr. Meyer was extremely thorough with his explanations and makes sure you completely understand the material before moving on. It's clear that he is very dedicated to the material he teaches you and knowledgeable on the concepts, as he is able to explain deeper into the concepts. I started off very lost on the topic, and Mr. Meyer helped me understand it after just one session.

frequently asked questions

Still Got Questions?

How often do piano lessons usually take place?

Typically, lessons are weekly, and students who are more invested or committed to learn piano may request two lessons a week.

What towns do you teach in? Where are you located?

I currently teach piano in the Eastern Queens/Western Long Island region. Towns include but are not limited to: Little Neck, Great Neck, Manhasset, Lake Success, Glen Oaks, Mineola, Floral Park, Garden City, New Hyde Park, Jamaica, Douglaston, Fresh Meadows, Oakland Gardens, Bayside, Auburndale, Broadway, and Whitestone. My studio is located in Little Neck.

Are your rates the same if the piano lessons were in your home versus in my home?

Depending on the distance and traffic, there may be a commute charge. The best way to find out is to contact me.

I’d like to learn piano online, how would this affect my learning experience?

I have a multi microphone setup, and a flexible camera setup. With my tools, I have all the necessary tools to teach piano online effectively. All I would need from you is a decent camera angle showing your hands, and any microphone. A smartphone is all that is needed for me to provide the same level of feedback I would provide for my in person students.

Do you provide any services other than teaching?

I provide recording services in my studio with professional gear including Sony FX30, Zoom F6 and a multi-microphone setup, I also provide accompaniment work as well.

Who do you recommend for tuning and piano repair?

My piano is mainly serviced by Aidan Timoshenko. I endorse his work ethic and he shows a lot of care to my piano. His website is https://timoshenkopiano.com/

Am I too young or old to learn piano?

No one is ever too young or too old to learn any instrument, let alone piano. Piano is an amazing instrument to learn for any age, and piano has the most compositions out of all instruments. There are many benefits to learning piano, regardless of age.

Do you teach students with varying levels? Do I need prior knowledge for your lessons?

You do not need any prior experience for my piano lessons. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, there is always more to learn and improve.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash, check, zelle, venmo and paypal.

Do I need any specific piano books?

I will recommend a set of piano beginner books based on the student’s age and current level. If you took piano previously, I will likely continue using the books you were using.

Do you provide any performing opportunities?

Yes, I currently have a studio recital for my students once a year.

Can my child be prepared for NYSSMA/ABRSM/competitions?

Yes I can provide instruction to excel in all events. Some students have passed the highest NYSSMA and ABRSM levels with the highest scores. I have students who also have passed international piano competitions in the NYC area and performed in Carnegie and Merkin Hall.
